Visitors to see a new greeting when leaving the airport

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A welcome monument is planned for the entrance to Evansville Regional Airport.

Monday, the Gateway Project in conjunction with Keep Evansville Beautiful announced it has raised half of the money needed to build the concrete monument.

It would be 175 feet wide, 10 feet tall in some areas, and will be topped with a sculpture that reads 'Welcome to Evansville'.

The monument is planned to be directly across from the airport so it is seen as people are leaving.

"It's all about making our entrances look better and we will work with anyone to achieve that," said Cheryl Musgrave of Keep Evansville Beautiful.

The price tag for the monument is $176,000 dollars.

Donors should contact Keep Evansville Beautiful. The organization hopes construction will start later this year.

Once this project is completed, Keep Evansville Beautiful hopes to complete more improvements on Highway 57 and 41.
