Ft. Branch fighting closure of median crossovers on Highway 41

FT. BRANCH, IN (WFIE) -

Town Council Members in Ft. Branch say they're concerned about median crossover closures along Highway 41. They sent a letter to INDOT, hoping to keep the crossovers open and avoid increased traffic along the highway.

Tuesday, 14 News spoke with Town Council President Tom Wallace and says the town's main concern is driver safety.

INDOT's construction plans include closing the crossovers at Mulberry and five other streets intersecting Highway 41 to manage the amount of traffic crossing the highway.

But Wallace says the town is concerned that will mean even more traffic along Highway 41 and more traffic near schools, churches, and parks. He says he's afraid an increase in traffic will mean an increase in accidents.

14 News also spoke with INDOT and they say they've received the town's letter. INDOT says they're reviewing procedures and will take a closer look at those concerns.
