LOUISVILE, KY (WAVE) – All the residents have moved out and now Sheppard Square is one step closer to coming down.
Tall fencing is going up around part of the land while crews prepare for demolition.
The demolition is part of a 2 phase project that will begin in April.
The 36 buildings that currently make up Sheppard Square date back to World War II and were built as transitional homes for soldiers coming home.
A $20 million federal grant, called the Hope Six Grant, will pay for the 1930's and 1940's building to come down and be replaced with a mixed development.
The work is expected to be finished by the fall of 2016.
