OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Over the past five months, the Owensboro Police Department has been giving away free gun locks.

So far, 450 locks have been given away.

There's no limit to how many locks one person can take.

Anyone wanting a lock can come to the Owensboro Police station at Ninth and JR Miller to get one, but you'll have to wait until their replenish their stock.

So many people got free locks Friday, they are all out.

"The big stress that if you are a gun owner and you have guns in the home, we want to make sure it's safe and that you store them safely so we don't want those to fall in the hands of small children that might come in contact with those," said OPD Officer Michael Hathaway.

OPD says they should have some more locks in within a month.
