Ameren Illinois urges caution

HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) - Crews with Ameren Illinois have issued a safety warning to all residents in and around Saline County.

There are numerous power lines down. Ameren asks that all residents stay away from all downed lines, brush, downed trees, and limbs that may conceal downed power lines.

If you see a fallen or sagging line, you're encouraged to assume that it is still energized and dangerous. Those lines can carry power even after it's knocked to the ground. If you see a downed wire, call Ameren Illinois at 1-800-755-5000 to report it.

Ameren Illinois field personnel are patrolling the impacted areas to determine the extent of the damage. They are also helping the Saline County Emergency Management agency conduct search and rescues in Harrisburg.

If you are planning to use a portable generator, Ameren says you should first open the main breaker or remove the main fuses before connecting that generator to the electrical systems.
