UE announces new strategic plan

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

New plans are moving forward for the University of Evansville, Sunday, right in time for the 158th anniversary of their founding.

University President Dr. Thomas Kazee says the festivities are a mix of past and future, respecting history yet looking for growth.

The University of Evansville is looking forward to the next 158 years.

"What we've learned is that we can do a better job of telling the University of Evansville's story," said Kazee.

In the midst of this Founder's Day weekend, Kazee says this anniversary is also the kickoff date for setting a new strategic plan in motion.

"Our intention is to get out there and to have the quality that is so characteristic of the university to be better known," said Kazee.

Kazee says the Board of Trustees was on campus over the last few days, and have implemented two specific goals. The first is, over the next ten years, to renovate several structures around the university.

"Student housing, for example, is one area where we have some pretty exciting plans, also some academic spaces on campus and a fitness center," said Kazee.

Kazee says a second goal is to make the campus more well known around the region and around the country. He says one good step in that direction was their new athletic facility, the Ford Center, in Evansville's downtown.

Students say this Founder's Day, they're excited about the new directions their alma mater has in store, keeping with the things they already pride themselves in.

"One of the things that brought me to UE was the amount of attention that they give us and how truly student centered everything is in the community," said student Melanie Bacaling.

"Make you more passionate about what you study," said student Nick Joyner.

Today's festivities also included the recognition of ten new full professors to the university.
