EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
It's that time of year again, when drivers dodge pot holes. But sometimes, you can't avoid them.
Road crews have been repairing dangerous spots all across the city, but there are still some causing $100's to $1,000's of dollars in damage to vehicles.
Some are easy to miss, others are not.
"That pothole has been there consistently for a long time," said Steve Wozniak of a sizable pothole just off of Lloyd Expressway on Evansville's west side.
Just ask Donnie Pickett how much damage they can cause.
"I had to pull over and see what the noise was and if I broke anything and it did cause a lot of damage. When the traveler slammed down, it bent my fender," Pickett told 14 News.
If potholes weren't bad enough on their own, experts say what's worse is when it rains, these craters fill up with water.
"You can't tell how deep they are, so you think you have a small bump in the road and that's not it all," said Eddie Dietz with Lefler Collision and Glass.
The damage can leave a big hole in your pocket.
"Pothole damage can run into the hundreds, that is not out of the ordinary, but I have seen it run into the thousands," Dietz said.
The sink hole on the Evansville's west side, pictured to the right, brings up an even bumpier concern.
"It looks like there could be an accident caused every time someone swerves to miss it," said Steve Wozniak.
The city of Evansville asks that you report potholes.
So far, they say the numbers are down this year compared to last due to a mild winter.
