WESTERN KY (WFIE) -
Commonwealth officials say they plan to close the Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville come July 1st.
Daviess County officials are trying to prevent that from happening with a resolution they've adopted against the closure.
If the office closes, 25 western Kentucky counties would all be required to send their autopsies to Louisville and some of those counties are hours away.
"It will certainly encompass more expense for us because of the extended travel, the mileage, the cost associated with transporting individuals to Louisville as opposed to Madisonville," said Daviess County Coroner Jeff Jones.
Madisonville no longer has a pathologist to perform the autopsies.
