Thursday night 14 News heard from members of Richard Fulkerson II's family, some told us they were upset with how police have handled the investigation and Friday, and we have an exclusive interview with Fulkerson's wife, Samantha Phillips Fulkerson.
Samantha is out of the hospital and her scars are healing, but there's still plenty of emotional pain after finding out, her husband who she calls her "best friend" is gone.
"I really thought I was going to die that night and I think he did, too," Samantha told 14 News.
It's a night Samantha Phillips Fulkerson remembers all too well.
She says that January night, as she left their Culverson Avenue home, "that night he was really strange, he said I can't live without you, I won't live without you," Samantha said.
Samantha's father says, as a parent, he felt "helpless."
"I didn't really want to see him dead, I wanted him to stand in front of the judge," Mack Phillips said.
After police say she was stabbed several times, Samantha tells 14 News she spent 10 days in the hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries.
"It was all a dream to me until I woke up and felt all the staples in my neck," Samantha said.
After being stabbed on both sides and on the back of her neck, Samantha's scars are healing and she's enjoying being able to spend more time with her three children.
"I know that I'm lucky to be alive."
But even through the emotional and physical pain, Samantha says she's moving on, one day at a time.
"A lot of people are mourning him and I hope he knows this, because most of the time he felt alone," Samantha said.
Samantha says she was surrounded by security in the hospital and her father tells 14 News he's not glad Fulkerson is dead, but is happy for his family to be away from the fear of getting hurt again.
