LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – We have some good news for Kentuckiana drivers - you can now get to Interstate 65 from westbound I-64.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced the reopening of the ramp Friday afternoon. It had been closed as part of a traffic management plan following the closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge in September 2011.

Friday morning, crews removed the concrete barrier walls that had blocked the roadway from that location and the approaches to the Sherman Minton Bridge on the Kentucky side.

It is unknown when the Sherman Minton will be reopened. The deadline for completing the repair work to the span that carries I-64 traffic over the Ohio River between Louisville and New Albany was March 1.

There's more good news. According to Andrea Clifford, a KYTC spokesperson, the entrance ramp from Story Avenue to westbound I-64 is being restriped by crews and should be open to traffic later in the day. Officials at TRIMARC tell WAVE 3 the Story Avenue ramp reopened around 4 p.m.
