Evansville Day School plans large renovation

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

One Evansville school is looking toward some big changes. Evansville's Day School, on the city's North Side, is planning a $2.5 million renovation.

Head of school Kendell Berry says there are big plans.

"Expand these classroom out to that overhang. That's an additional six to eight feet when we actually move the heaters that are inside, because it will be central HV-AC."

The biggest change of all will be in the outdoor courtyard.

Berry says the atrium will give students and parents an area to meet or wait for appointments. With enrollment growing, he says they need the space.

"During this academic year from August until today, we have grown over five-percent."

Berry says the school has already raised $2 million during a capital campaign's quiet phase.

The school still has to raise another $500,000, and as soon as that's done, Berry says the school will start construction.

Berry says this renovation is just the beginning.  In the future, the school would also like to add an outdoor track and expand it's performing arts space, among other things.
