HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office tells 14 News one person is dead after a two vehicle accident in Henderson.
Deputies say 29-year-old Jonathan Coomes of Reed died in the two vehicle crash near Spottsville.
Many community members and fellow fire-fighters remember Jonathan Coomes as an up-beat worker, husband, and father of three.
The fire department tells us he'd been a part of their family for the past eight years, earning the rank of lieutenant after just seven. They say he was a hard-worker, who played an integral role in outfitting station three on Starlite Drive.
"I don't think you could find a single person who had a negative thing to say about him," said Assistant Chief of Henderson Fire Department Jerry Vandenbrook.
"From all accounts, super nice guy and he was a hard worker. It's a tragic loss," said Deputy Terry Harmon of Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening on Highway 60 in Spottsville.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says Michael Pritchett and driver Albert Williams were heading west when Williams overcorrected, hitting Coomes's truck which was traveling the opposite direction.
They say they're still investigating what caused the crash including whether alcohol was a factor.
"We're not for sure yet. We do suspect it," said Deputy Harmon.
Everyone 14 News talked with says it's a somber day, not just for the victims' families and the fire station, but for the entire community.
"He was motivated. He was an excellent individual and I'm glad to have known him," said Vandenbrook.
Albert Williams, 58, of Spottsville is in serious condition and Michael Pritchett, 27, of Baskett is listed as critical at St. Mary's.
