14 News, WFIE, Evansville, Henderson, OwensboroFORECAST: First significant snow of the winter

FORECAST: First significant snow of the winter

Posted: Updated:

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE TRI-STATE UNTIL TUESDAY MORNING

We'll see snow moving in to the area Monday evening and overnight.  Accumulations will range around 1-2" south of the Ohio River and 2-3" north of the Ohio River.  The snow will taper off to a brief period of freezing rain and drizzle overnight Monday, before a change to rain by early Tuesday morning.  All precipitation should come to an end by early Tuesday afternoon.

The snow should begin in our far western counties in Illinois and Kentucky by 6:00 p.m.  Snow should reach the Evansville-Henderson metro area between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m.   Owensboro and the eastern portion of the Tri-State will see snow between 10 PM and 2:00 a.m.

Temperatures will stay near freezing through the event, so it will be a heavy/wet snow that may pile up quickly.  Surface temperatures have been below freezing for a couple of days, so everything will stick this time around.  Driving problems will start to appear by the 9 and 10:00 p.m. news
