EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Monday was the grand opening for Evansville's new VA Heath Care Center. The mayor and several representatives were on hand for the ribbon cutting.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke was just one of hundreds who came to officially dedicate Evansville's new VA Health Care Center.
"We think this facility will be able to serve up to 15,000 veterans and you heard today that this facility was built for expansion," said Mayor Winnecke.
The center already has some of the newest technology, including a state of the art CT Scanner, but medical officer Tahir Mufti says this is just the start.
"It may take some time to build those clinics, like cardiology and pulmonary and all those specialities."
Mufti says each doctor at the medical center sees about 14 patients a day, and they keep getting busier.
"We are actually seeing 60 new patients a week. New enrollees."
Medical center officials say they want to expand the chemo treatment suit, among other things, in the future.
