Tips to keep you from sliding off slick roads

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

As the threat of more wintry weather enters the area Monday night, Evansville Police are reminding drivers to slow down when driving in wintry weather conditions.

Evansville Police responded to 53 crashes in 2 hour period last Friday night. The weather that night caused area roadways to ice over. Most of the crashes were on overpasses on the Lloyd Expressway and I-164.

Police remind drivers that if the roadway is wet and the temperature drops below 32 degrees, the potential for slick spots increases. If you are on a roadway where these conditions have begun, find an alternate route.

If you are traveling though an area where there are already accidents and you do not have an alternate route, safely reduce your speed before you get to the accident scene. This will reduce the chance that you will be involved in a collision and will decrease the danger to the public safety workers at the accident scenes.
