Partnership brings more exposure to Bluegrass Museum

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

A brand new partnership between the International Bluegrass Music Museum and a local community center in Downtown Owensboro will expose more kids to the bluegrass culture in the comfort of their own community.

There are new sounds and sites coming from the Neblett Center in Owensboro. Seven to 11-year-olds are getting some hands-on exposure to bluegrass.

It's part of the Arnold Shultz String Music Program. Kids at the Neblett Center's after-school program will learn bluegrass heritage and perform a romp in a few weeks.

"It's a really good way to stay out of trouble. It's a really good way to make long, life-lasting friendships and that's what I really want to encourage with the kids," says instructor Danny Clark.

Youth program Director, Rick Searcy, says exposing kids to different cultures will expand the already growing culture in Owensboro.

"We want to develop them into productive citizens that will benefit with all the development that's going on around here."

Bluegrass Museum instructors have already taught over 2,000 kids a new instrument through their Saturday lessons program.
