TRI-STATE (WFIE) -
The Tri-State may be facing some wintery conditions in the next couple of days.
Since it's been an unseasonably warm winter, some locals may not be prepared for a winter comeback.
It seems that purchases of things, like portable heaters and ice melt, haven't exactly flown off the shelves this year and that it is possible that Tri-Staters aren't ready for a late weather surge in February.
Due to this year's unseasonably warm winter, Tri-Staters haven't been buying winter products at a consistent rate.
"Not as much as we have in the past. It's been down considerably," said Assistant manager of Rural King when asked how many winter products they have sold over the past few months.
Items, like portable heaters and snow shovels, have been left on the shelf at stores like Rural King. Instead in Mid-February, many shoppers are already looking for spring-time products.
"Seems like they're trending more toward seasonal items. Selling a lot of potting mix, seeds, things along that line. Seeing a lot of bird feed for the birds and stuff. But like I said, not a whole lot of winter, what you call winter items," notes Kennedy.
Snow and icy conditions have been forecasted for the tri-State in the coming days. This negligence of winter items could leave some ill-prepared for a late-winter comeback.
"It's possible. Usually though by this time of year, if anybody needs something, they've bought it," said Kennedy.
