Evansville man gets 20 years for involuntary manslaughter

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

William Hines was sentenced for 20 years in prison Friday for killing girlfriend Tonya Starkey on September 30th.

Starkey's mother says Hines and her daughter went out one night last October and she heard them come home. She says she heard voices, loud music, and then silence. She says she called police when Starkey didn't come out of her bedroom the next day.

Carly Settles with the Vanderburgh Co. Prosecutors office says 20 years is the maximum sentence you can receive for involuntary manslaughter. Hines' murder charge was dropped.
