EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
You may soon see some changes at ATMs.
The Americans with Disabilities Act set a deadline back in 2010 to make all ATMs ADA compliant.
Along with height and braille requirements, the ADA mandated that all ATMs upgrade to a private audio jack and audible instructions.
The deadline is March 15th of this year and many ATMs have not yet made the transition.
American Bank equipment salesman Corey King says all ATMs will have to become PC based, or the owners run the risk of being sued.
"I would estimate 80% of the ATMs in the country were not PC based prior to 2010, which means either it has to be upgraded on existing units, the units have to be replaced. And since we're not talking about a toaster that you just go to Walmart and pick up, it's quite dynamic," King said.
King couldn't specify what kind of litigation ATM owners could face.
