SANTA CLAUS, IN (WFIE) -
Holiday World owners continue talks to take over the former Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, and in Spencer County, Holiday World plans to hire more than 2,000 seasonal employees this month. They're also making progress on a new ride called The Mammoth.
There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of action at Holiday World Splashin' Safari this time of year, but behind the scenes is a different story.
Construction of The Mammoth, their newest attraction, is right on schedule.
"W have about two-thirds of the fiber glass up, so we're very close. We're going to be opening very soon and we're really excited about the new attraction we're bringing in," says Holiday World GM Matt Eckert.
Holiday World officials refer to The Mammoth as a "big brother" to the Wildebeast, another Splashin' Safari Attraction.
The Wildebeast was so popular last season, park directors saw the need for a bigger, better version.
"That's where the Mammoth came about. It's going to be about a third of a mile long, the world's longest water coaster, so we're really hanging our hat on that."
Eckert says the more attractions they add, the more employees they need. The theme park plans to fill over 2,000 seasonal positions starting now.
"We're looking for ride operators, we're looking for food service, we're looking for admission, we're looking for sweepers, and pretty much anything you can imagine."
Applicants can be as young as 14 for some positions, for others, you have to be at least 16, but Holiday World has an employee transportation program for those unable to drive.
"We have a fleet of buses for those individuals who do have trouble finding transportation or those looking for a cheaper route. We travel into Evansville, Newburgh, Tell City, Huntingburg and down into Owensboro."
