DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -
A big change coming out Tuesday about the proposed strip mine near the Pleasant Ridge area in Daviess County.
Western Kentucky Minerals wanted to have 685 acres re-zoned so they could mine. Now they just want 385.
On Tuesday, the Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission announced Western Kentucky Minerals only wanted 385 acres rezoned, for now.
"Basically, it's due to an issue over ownership of one of the parcels. The planning commission attorney had a question in regards to who the current owner was. That person did not sign an application, so we just felt it best that we maybe take a step back on that parcel at this point," said Brian Howard with the planning commission.
The Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission will vote on whether or not to have the land rezoned on Thursday.
If the commission passes the re-zoning, it then can be appealed to the fiscal court. They have the final say.
