'Significant production' announcement planned at TMMI

PRINCETON, IN (WFIE) -

What's being called a 'significant announcement' is coming today from Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Gibson County.

According to a release from Toyota, it's regarding production and is 'positive news' to the area.

Princeton Mayor Bob Hurst says Toyota employs roughly 4,000 people, a significant percentage of those from Gibson County.

He says he looks forward to the announcement and hopes it will bring continued growth to the area.

Towering along Highway 41 just south of Princeton, Toyota Motor Manufacturing is a significant presence in Gibson County.

"It's amazing how they have everything organized and it comes together at the right time and the way their assembly line is set up, it's really neat,"says resident Ryan Moll.

What's next for the company? An announcement Wednesday afternoon will answer that question.

Toyota released a statement Tuesday morning stating they will hold a press conference along with economic development officials from both the region and the state. Mayor Bob Hurst says he's anxious to hear about what the plant has in store.

"I think it will be good news, and I think when they come out with their announcement it just establishes more of a foothold in the community,"says Hurst.

According to Toyota representatives, the announcement is in regards to production. Currently workers produce three vehicles, the Sienna, the Sequoia, and the Highlander.

The company just celebrated it's 3 millionth vehicle back in January, and the last time Toyota made a production adjustment, they added an additional 600 Siennas to ship to South Korea, and residents say they are looking forward to further developments.

"They've been able to bring a lot of business into the county, especially when you look at all the hotels, but it's a great employer," says resident Jesse Myers.

14 News will be at the news conference Wednesdays and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
