EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Half a million people are expected to pack Indy for Super Bowl XLVI; and one Perry Heights Middle School teacher is using it as an opportunity to teach his sixth graders everything from math, to science, and the economy.
With Indiana hosting the Super Bowl, Social Studies teacher Greg Scholz thought now is the perfect time to tie in some lessons.
"Anytime you can make that connection between life and school, that's when you're going to get the greatest learning out of it."
He's using "The Big Game" as a jumping off point for many subjects, including the economy and advertising.
"It costs a lot of money to put a commercial in the Super Bowl."
As a final assignment, the kids are going to put together a presentation that talks about this year's ad campaigns, the economic impact on Indiana and more.
"There is so much out there. It's on the news, it's on the commercials, and if they could figure out why that's a big deal."
Scholz also got other teachers to agree to let one of his assignment count in each of their classes, so that he could incorporate other subjects.
