Conflicting reports released on Peyton Manning's status

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (NBC) -

Conflicting reports are circulating the media on Peyton Manning's playing status.

ESPN reported Thursday that Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning has been medically cleared to resume his NFL career.

According to the source, two doctors examined Manning, including Dr. Robert Watkins who performed Manning's most recent surgery.

The second doctor was reported as being Colts neurosurgeon Dr. Hank Feuer. Sources also say that now it's no longer a safety issue, it's a performance issue.

In a tweet from the Colts owner Jim Irsay though, Manning has not been cleared to play. A statement is expected later Friday morning on the subject.

It was reported that Manning had a secret throwing session at an undisclosed location Tuesday with two colts receivers, but the question that remains unanswered is: how soon will the nerve affecting his triceps regenerate?

Manning is due a $28 million roster bonus on March 8th from the Colts.

Indy has said they will draft a quarterback with the number pick, and it is expected to be Andrew Luck.

Manning has had three neck surgeries in the past 19 months and did not play one minute of football this season.
