New bike trails coming to Santa Claus

SPENCER CO, IN (WFIE) -

New bike trails are coming to Santa Claus, Indiana, and it's thanks to a large grant.

County officials want bicyclists to be free to ride out and enjoy the sights of Spencer County, but they want them to stay off of the busy roads through town and the state highways.

The new bike trails would connect the town of Santa Claus to the Lincoln Boyhood Memorial.

The town is one of two in the state to receive funds from the Federal Transit Administration.

The funds will help pay for the preliminary designs and engineering of the trail. Santa Claus town attorney Kevin Patmore says they're anxious to have the safe routes.

"It's means for people to bike and walk to and from the Memorial and to Santa Claus."

The cost for constructing those bike and pedestrian trails is around $3 million.
