Three suspects arrested after Burkhardt burglary

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Police have arrested all three suspects wanted for the early morning burglary at the Kruckemeyer and Cohn Jewelry Store Tuesday.

Police say it began at Kruckemeyer and Cohn around 4:45 a.m., and ended at Normandy Arms Apartments after a chase.

"I think these guys are professionals and it's good to get them off the street," said Kruckemeyer and Cohn president Tim Hoehn

Police say an officer began chasing three suspects in a white Mercedes after a glass break alarm at a jewelry store on Burkhardt.

The driver and a passenger of the Mercedes were apprehended, but the third suspect got away.

"The third remained at large until about 8:35 this morning when an officer that was checking the area of the East side Walmart saw him," said Jason Cullum with the EPD.

The suspects are from the Cleveland, Ohio area and have no known ties to Evansville.

Officers also tell us they found jewelry in the suspect's vehicle, and the store reports that a couple of jewelry boxes were smashed.

John Henry Flagg Jr, 55, Eric Von Cammon, 50, and Floyd Lewis Austell, 57, have all been taken into custody. All of the suspects face burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest charges.

Evansville Police say they have connected two of the burglary suspects to another local jewelry store burglary in 2011.

When police arrested Austell, they noticed his wrist-watch. On it, a Brinker's logo. It helped link police to a July 2011 break-in at Brinker's involving him and Flagg.

"There was only one of those watches made with that logo, so the guy didn't know it, but he had a one-of-a-kind watch," said store owner Dirk Brinker.

According to police reports, damage was listed at around $9,000.

Police say they're still assessing that damage.

The three suspects are in Vanderburgh County Jail, on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.

Police say more charges could be filed at a later time.
