DUBOIS CO, IN (WFIE) -
The town of Ferdinand is now making it easier for residents to follow what's happening.
Ferdinand Town Hall has added a new feature to its website as a technological demonstration in government accountability.
Some might say that government action takes place behind closed doors and out of public view, but for one small town in Dubois county, such action has never been more visible.
The town of Ferdinand launched its 'Citizen's Action Center' Wednesday, as part of the town website.
"If you have access to the Internet anywhere, it doesn't matter, you don't have to be in Ferdinand. You don't have to be in the county. You can log on and send a message basically to any one of our supervisors about a problem. And you can track the progress of getting it resolved," said Ferdinand Town Manager Marc Steczyk.
It's a simple procedure that takes only minutes to complete. Simply type in the website's URL. Click 'action center' on the left side of the screen.
Choose a sub-topic under one of the four town departments.
Specify what the issue is, and click 'submit item'. It's that easy.
"The beauty of it is, it's part of our content management system on our website already. So just implementing it costs the residents absolutely nothing, since it's already part of the system," Steczyk said.
Steczyk also said that some residents have already started to use the new system and those that have, have given great reviews.
"It's a living, breathing document basically. In that we can add and change and delete whatever we would like that, if more issues come up."
Another aspect of the new action center is the ability to track what the town is doing to resolve reported problems, and when.
