Holly's House helping out with children of shooting victim

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The family impacted by Monday's deadly police stand off is receiving help from Holly's House.

The two boys who were home when police say their mother was shot and killed by her boyfriend are now staying with their grandparents.

The two boys that were at that home on Vann Avenue were also the ones that helped notify police.

The oldest son called his grandfather, Jim Peters, telling him they were in trouble and that their mother had been shot in the head.

Their mother, 28-year-old Jennifer Nicky Peters, had been killed.

The children were able to get out of the house and after a six hour long stand off with police, the suspect was also killed.

Now, the family and organizations like Holly's House are helping the young boys cope with the trauma.

"This is our first time experiencing anything like this, and we really hope it's the last, but when you are in a situation like this, you need people around you that are dishing out love and understanding," Jim Peters said.

"We have two families who are really impacted by this.  Our opportunity was to provide support for the children in this case, but there is a whole web of families that have been impacted by this," said Executive Director of Holly's House Sydney Hardgrave.

"They gave us advice on things that were to happen, because it hasn't set in on them or us yet," said Peters.
