More flights coming to airport in Oboro?

Posted: Updated:
OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

In the last couple of years, the Owensboro airport has added flights to Orlando, Las Vegas and most recently Saint Louis. Officials say even more flights could be on the way.

Travel agent Joy Miller says, "A lot of things are already booked up solid. I've had several that have come in here and try to book up things and they're already sold out."

A big reason why Miller's been so busy is the new flights to Vegas and Saint Louis that the Owensboro airport has added.

Andrew Bonney with CapeAir says, "It's just making the community aware that they've got an airport right in their back yard. The airport's doing really well. Thriving with the allegiant service, and we're really happy to complement that with daily high-frequency commuter service."

The oldest flights the Owensboro Airport currently offers is Allegiant's flights to Orlando.

Miller says, "They are increasing in number. I think the more if they start adding more flights and things like that, that will actually pick up. June, July right before especially the kids go back to school. That's their prime time to travel."

Airport director Bob Whitmer says with Orlando flights on the rise, there is a possibility Allegiant Air could add more flights to Orlando during summer months.

Currently, Allegiant flies from Owensboro to Orlando twice a week, on Sundays and Thursdays.
