Chad Sproles phoned home just in time.
Stationed in Iraq with the Fort Campbell-based 101st Airborne Division, the 23-year-old Army private had a sudden urge Wednesday to check on his pregnant wife, Dana.
He tried to reach family members back home in Bristol, Virginia, on their cell phones, with no luck.
When his time at a pay phone was up, he ran a mile to the next nearest telephone and began dialing numbers.
Finally, he tried Bristol Regional Medical Center in Tennessee.
It was just after 7:00 p.m. in Mosul, just after 11:00 a.m. in Tennessee.
The call was transferred immediately to the delivery room.
Sproles' sister, Heather Arnold, says he called just as Dana was giving birth to their healthy, eight-pound daughter, whom they named Morgan Aleece.
