FAIRVIEW, KY (AP) -

Police say a state trooper has shot a suspect who tried to run over him with a vehicle.

Police said in a statement that Trooper James MacArthur was called to investigate a suspicious vehicle on Saturday night in Christian County and the driver fled when MacArthur attempted to pull him over.

During the pursuit, the vehicle hit the trooper's cruiser and stopped so MacArthur began to approach the vehicle on foot.

Police say that's when the driver attempted to run over MacAthur and the trooper fired his gun, hitting the suspect. The suspect then fled into Todd County, where he was stopped and removed from the vehicle.

Police say the suspect, whose name was not release, suffered non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at a hospital. MacArthur was put on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
