OHIO CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Ohio County Sheriff's Office will soon be putting more deputies out on the county roadway after several deputies left their positions.

The three new deputies graduated from the academy in Richmond on Friday, and will begin training in Ohio County this next week.

Since David Thompson became Ohio County sheriff a year ago, they have constantly been four to five deputies short on patrols. He says it's been a struggle to find just the right people to complete their staff, but is glad the search is at an end.

Hundreds of Ohio County residents packed the streets of Hartford for the annual Christmas parade on Saturday, and deputies with the sheriff's office were also out patrolling, keeping cars and floats safe. @

In the evenings, there's typically two deputies on duties to handle runs, and that's the way it's been for the past year. Sheriff David Thompson told 14 News that since he defeated the incumbent Elvis Doolin, several deputies have resigned or retired.

However, starting Monday, three new deputies will be joining the force, giving the sheriff's office a full roster. Deputies say this means they will be able to double the number of deputies patrolling, and will also help them better investigate crimes.

Sheriff Thompson says in addition to the new deputies, they have purchased several new patrol cars.
