NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) -

Two women are behind bars in southern Indiana after police say they pulled out a gun and then demanded money from a 17-year-old while they were in a moving car.

On Saturday, police say 37-year-old Vanessa Mills and 28-year-old Ashley O'Brien were hanging around a Save-a-Step in Greenville off of Highway 150 asking for help when a 17-year-old boy walked up.

"He was approached there by two women who were offering to give money for a ride to New Albany," said Chief Todd Bailey of the New Albany Police Department. "As a Good Samaritan, he took them up on the offer."

Police say that good deed turned scary.

After the trio hit the road, police say one of the women pulled out a gun and demanded money. The teen was then ordered to drive to BP gas station on West 5th and Spring Street in New Albany about 14 miles away. The three of them walked inside, and one the women asked clerk Renny Singh where the ATM was. At that point, Singh said the teen decided to take action.

"He grabbed her from the neck and held the gun here and she pushed him back and they ended up against the wall," said Singh.

Singh said the boy was able to hold her down, but they weren't safe yet.

"The gun was pointing at me for at least five minutes," said Singh.

Then Singh said the other woman started hitting the teen.

"I can still remember his face, he was so scared, too, but luckily he had a good grip," said Singh.

Singh was eventually able to call 911. Police say Mills was arrested at the BP. O'Brien was able to get away, but was arrested later that day in New Albany.

"Word to the wise, when in doubt, when something doesn't seem right, it may not be, so be cautious with who you deal with," said Bailey.

The two women were booked into the Floyd County Jail on robbery charges, but police say there's a possibility kidnapping charges could be added.
