14 News captured a special reunion on Tuesday at Evansville Regional Airport.
Amy Wright, a technical specialist in the Air Force, came home after being overseas since March. Little did she know, she had quite a welcome party waiting for her.
Kassidy Duran, 10, waited patiently as her mom, Technical Sgt. Amy Wright, exited the plane.
"There she is!!"
Amy has been serving our country overseas in Afghanistan and Kuwait. She had no idea her daughter would be at the airport when she arrived.
Amy says, "I was in complete shock that everyone was here to welcome me home at the airport. It was awesome."
The bond between mother and daughter is obvious, but Amy says nothing can describe the feeling when she first saw her daughter.
She says, "Oh my gosh. That's my daughter. She looks taller, the same but taller. She's almost as tall as me now. There's still so many troops still overseas and I'm so lucky and fortunate to actually be one of the ones that gets to be home for the holidays with my family. It's still a shock that I'm here."
Kassidy's grandparents took watch over her while Amy was deployed. They say having Amy home just in time for the holidays is more than they could've asked for.
Amy plans to catch up with family and rest while she's home.
She's here for a week before heading to Texas, where she's stationed at Randolph Air Force Base.
