Wastewater facility expansion complete

Posted: Updated:
NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -

The newly expanded wastewater plant in Newburgh is fully operational.

The $23 million expansion is complete and has been online for a week now. An open house allows the public to get a close look at the new features.

New technology has allowed the facility to nearly double it's daily intake capacity. The wastewater is now being processed in a greener, cleaner and more efficient way than before for it's 35,000 customers. Newburgh council members say the expansion gives the area room for growth.

"This is our future. If we had not done this, we were at capacity and we would not have been able to grow. We would not have new schools, and we would not have new businesses."

The laboratory at the wastewater facility has received an operational excellence award every year for the past decade.
