OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The decision has been made. Kentucky Wesleyan College will stay Division II, but won't remain in the same conference for now.

KWC's Athletic Director David Williams says, "The board has unanimously approved KWC and Dr. Turner to pursue membership in a new NCAA Division II Conference in and around the Ohio River Valley."

The school wants to remain a Division II school, but leave the Great Lakes Valley Conference because from a geography standpoint, the GLVC has basically moved away.

Men's basketball coach Todd Lee says, "A few of our trips in our league are long, and it's tough on our student athletes. It's tough on the budgets. The best conference in the country is the GLVC, so we're not going to upgrade from GLVC."

Athletic Director Williams says the new conference KWC is trying to form doesn't have a name yet, only that the other five schools looking to join the conference are all from Ohio. They include Notre Dame college, Urseline college, Cederville, Central State college, and Urbana University.

Officials say the move won't affect scholarships.
