Hancock Co. on alert after string of burglaries

Posted: Updated:
HANCOCK CO., KY (WFIE) -

In Hancock County, deputies are patrolling the area for burglars after several homes were broken into on September 9th. They say there are still no leads in the case.

In a neighborhood where folks keep a watchful eye, authorities are trying to figure out how burglars hit four homes within a half mile of one another, in one day.

"It is odd that nothing was seen that day," says Hancock Co. Sheriff Dale Bozarth.

Sheriff Bozarth says the burglaries happened in the Hillsdale area near John Pate and Fred Hoggis Road and another five miles away in Hawesville.

Pastor William Taylor has preached in Hillsdale for a year now, and thinks it's unusual too.

"It is a quiet area, it's off Highway 60, and it's a safe community."

Deputies say they feel like more than one person's involved in these crimes.

"We think they're using a tactic where they're dropping somebody off," says Bozarth

Bozarth says the burglars may pose as a driver in need of help to give them a reason to knock on doors first.

"When they find out no one's at the residence, they're probably gaining access and grabbing what they want and calling for a vehicle to come pick them up."

Taylor says the churches normal activities continue, And prays the thieves won't strike again.

"We're cautious that we have things we keep put out of sight."

The sheriff's office don't have a confirmed vehicle description. They've narrowed suspicious cars in the area over the last week to two.
