Testimony continues in the murder trial of a southern Illinois teen accused of killing an elderly Evansville woman in her home.
Pharoah Newton, 18, is accused of beating and stabbing 79-year-old Frances Wolf in her First Street home in October of last year.
After the jury was seated on Tuesday, testimony began, and one witness, Wolf's neighbor, told the jury about Newton's marijuana use. Since Newton had never been charged with marijuana use, the defense attorney asked the judge for a mistrial. The judge denied it.
Police say Newton's father lived in a basement apartment of Wolf's home, but was out of town at the time.
Officers say Pharoah stayed with him for several days before her death.
