Death investigation could lead police to purse thief

JASPER, IN (WFIE) - There is a bizarre twist in a death investigation case in Jasper.

Police say that investigation has helped solve several purse theft cases from Wednesday.

Police were called to a home at 408 Mill Street, where they say the deceased, 28-year-old Autumn Burkardt had been staying with her 24-year-old sister, Rhiannon Fisher.

While at the home, police say they noticed Fisher's car matched the suspect vehicle from thefts at Hucks, Walgreens, and Walmart.

Inside the car, police say they recovered several of the stolen items.

Charges are pending against Fisher who police believe acted as the getaway driver for Burkardt.

As for the death investigation, police say several prescription drugs were found in the home.

The coroner's office is now investigating.
