KSP investigating fatal tractor accident on Pennyrile

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Pennyrile Parkway through Hopkins County was backed up for hours Thursday because of a fatal accident.

It happened near the 37 mile marker just before 5:30 p.m. Kentucky State Police say 54-year-old Anthony Stevenson was driving a tractor as part of a mowing crew, when witnesses saw him slumped over.

Troopers say the tractor crossed the north and south bound lanes, then back through the northbound lanes. Stevenson was thrown from the tractor, and ran over.

Witness Whitney Curtis says the tractor was out of control.

"I saw the tractor pulling the bush hog cutting across the median into oncoming traffic. I stopped, and the person in front of me stopped. We got out and ran towards the tractor, and the guy in front of me got on the tractor to stop it. "

The accident is still under investigation.
