A party barge in Henderson will soon be available for public use.
The barge is owned by Ohio Valley Marine Services.
They're currently working on the finishing touches.
As Butch Branson puts it, this barge is still a work in progress.
He says it started as a one time thing for his secretary.
From there, Branson says, the idea of the party barge sparked the public's interest.
"We'll be able to use it for wedding receptions, class reunions, corporate parties, things like that," Branson explained.
Branson says they have an agreement with the City of Henderson to dock the boat at the city's main landing, but he says it can be moved for convenience. "It's mobile, so it can go to Evansville, Owensboro, it could go to Mt. Vernon, we can take it anywhere within reason."
He says they've already hosted two events on deck and guests enjoyed themselves, despite the heat.
"We have fans," Branson said, "and now we're looking into some type of misting system that will help cool the air."
He says anyone will be able to rent it.
He believes there's a need for an events barge in the river region, "people like the river. If you go by any riverfront, river front park, you always see people that the river draws an interest, so I think something like this, people would like to be on it."
Branson expects the barge to be available for public renting by the end of August.
From there, he says it will be ready to rent all year round.
Branson says once complete, they'll get a coast guard certificate of inspection to know the maximum capacity and to get a liquor license.
