WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -
The extreme heat is dangerous for those who are constantly outside, but at the Warrick County 4Hh Fair, it's almost impossible for members and animals to escape.
Warrick County 4-H member Kaylee Spencer almost lost her rabbit Charlie due to the extreme heat.
"That was really scary for me because I've never lost one of my rabbits. I've never seen one of my rabbits die."
She's been working hard to make sure she doesn't have another close call while at the fair.
"We took lots of trips to get frozen bottles of water and put them in her cage so she can lay against them and lick the moist off of it and keep her moist."
Fair official Rob Dimmett says this is one of the hottest years for the fair they can remember.
"Two years ago, we had sweatshirts on so hopefully tomorrow there will be a cold front that comes through and it'll be a high of 90."
He says the fair board is always on the lookout for heat related issues but he says they can't do it by themselves.
"If you see somebody looking pale or if you see somebody sitting down with their head hanging low, we just try to keep an eye."
The heat continues to cause other issues as well.
Dimmett says because they need so many fans in the animal barn, electrical breakers have been tripping.
"They get heated up and they do trip and we do have extra fans. It's hard to monitor how many extra amps each kid is using in the barn, but we are promoting and telling the kids make sure they do have fans going. The more air we can get circulating, the better off we are."
Fair officials are hoping the extra preparations will keep animals on their feet and happy this year
