In Knox County Thursday morning Knox County Central Dispatch Center reported a possible intoxicated driver operating a Volkswagen Beetle eastbound on US 50 from Lawrenceville, IL.
Moments later, dispatchers reported a Lawrence County Deputy Sheriff was attempting to stop the vehicle on US 50 approaching Indiana.
The driver was traveling near the speed limit, but was refusing to stop. After entering Indiana, Master Trooper John Trotter positioned his patrol car in front of the suspect's vehicle and began to slow down.
The driver of the Volkswagen eventually pulled over near the one mile-marker and surrendered.
The driver was identified as Michael Johnson, 43, of Vincennes.
Johnson's 12-year-old niece was a front seat passenger.
Further investigation revealed Johnson was legally intoxicated. He was taken to the Knox County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.
