GALLATIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Officials with the National Weather Service (NWS) have determined that the May storm near Shawneetown was an EF1 tornado.

According to the Gallatin County Emergency Management Agency, NWS officials completed surveys of the storm that hit May 23 and damaged numerous buildings along a stretch from west of Junction to the north side of Shawneetown.

An EF1 tornado has an estimated wind speed between 86-110 mph, according to NWS officials.

Officials say the May 25 storm that damaged the Gallatin Co. school was declared a microburst. The storm had peak winds of 90 mph, according to the damage report.
