Late Sunday night, NBC issued a statement concerning the most wanted man across the world.
According to President Obama, Osama bin Laden is dead thanks to U.S. military action.
Bin Laden was the founder of the jihadist organization of al-Qaeda, most widely recognized for the September 11, 2001 attackes on the U.S.
It's been more than 3,500 days since the 9/11 attacks. We are just four months short of the ten year anniversary.
Bin Laden was on the American FBI lists of Ten Most Wanted Fugitives and Most Wanted Terrorists due to his involvement in the '98 U.S. Embassy bombings. Since 2001, Osama bin Laden and his organzation have been huge targets of the U.S. War on Terror.
The following facts/sentences are from President Barack Obama's speech Sunday night:
Osama bin Laden escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan when the U.S. went looking for him in 2001.
President Obama contacted the Director of CIA and told him that Bin Laden must be found.
Last August, the President was alerted of a possible lead to Bin Laden. That lead was far from certain, and the President met repeatedly with his team of National Security to follow the lead that Bin Laden was hiding in a compound in Pakistan.
Last week, the President says he and his team had enough information to go forward with the mission to find Bin Laden.
On Sunday, a small team of Americans carried out the mission to find Bin Laden. No civilians were killed or injured during the mission. After a fire fight, the team of Americans killed Bin Laden and took custody of his body.
President Obama says the U.S. is not and never will be at war with Islam, and that Bin Laden was a mass murderer of Muslims.
While Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, he ordered attacks against the Pakistani people. President Obama says Pakistan gladly joined with the U.S. to find Bin Laden and bring him to justice.
The United States does have Osama bin Laden's body.
Justice has been done. We give thanks to the men who carried out this operation.
