LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Firefighters in Harrods Creek faced a tough challenge Monday when they were called to rescue a man and his son from a flooded home in the Transylvania Beach area. The father, a wheelchair-bound double amputee, was trying to wait out the flood waters with his son when power was shut off.
With no other choice, they called for help and the Harrods Creek Fire responded with a truck and water rescue vessel.
Firefighters had to take extra care because of the man's condition, and at one point considered trying to borrow a nearby John boat to help, but they managed to get him safely aboard their rescue craft.
As for the power being cut, Harrods Creek firefighters told us utility companies had to shut off service to flooded homes for safety reasons. Over the weekend, firefighters rescued several other flood victims and the live power lines only a few feet away posed a significant hazard.
