JACKSON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Indiana Conservation Officers has to rescue man after his car was swept from the road.
The Jackson County Sheriff's department responded to a 911 call on Sunday afternoon. Police say 57-year-old Mike Fish of Medora, Indiana had been swept off the roadway, after he attempted to drive through high water on county road 225 West South of County Road 300 North near the old Jackson County water Company.
High water signs and barricades were in place. Fish's car was swept off the roadway by the high water. Indiana Conservation Officers responded to the area with their airboat. Officers were able to pull Fish from his vehicle into the airboat.
Water coming over the roadway caused it to be a difficult rescue. Water was to the bottom of the windows of the car and Fish was submerged above his waist.
Police are considering possible criminal charges against Fish including public intoxication, as well has possible traffic violations for ignoring the barricades. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
Conservation Officers wish to remind people of a few things during times of heavy flooding.
-Plan ahead to allow for extra time so you are not tempted to drive through high water.
-Never drive around barricades and posted signs -If you can not see the roadway, turn around.
