Crews battle overnight house fire in Evansville

A vacant house in Evansville is damaged by an early morning fire.

It broke out around 2:30 Friday morning in the 1100 block of Bedford Avenue.

Officials say the fire started on the back porch and spread to first and second floors.

The back porch is a total loss and there's a lot of damage to the house.

The roof also collapsed.

Firefighters say they had to fight the blaze from outside because it was too dangerous to go inside.

Authorities believe a homeless person may have been staying there.

A detached garage was also damaged. It took about an hour and a half to get the fire under control.

A fundraiser for the Henry family who lost their three children after a house fire in July did more than just raise money, it was inspiring.  Neighbors from the Fordsville area congregated at the Fordsville Volunteer Fire Department this afternoon to show support for the Henry family. To some it was a very emotional day, for others it was inspiring to see John and Christin Henry.
