ST. PHILIP, IN (WFIE) - A Posey County Deputy was treated and released from the hospital after being stabbed while on duty.

Posey County Sheriff Gregory Oeth says Deputy Dan Montgomery was released from Deaconess Hospital on Thursday around 5 p.m. He received 30 stitches to sew up his jaw.

Indiana State Police say Montgomery was attempting to serve a warrant with support from ISP to 24-year-old Brandon McManomy for a previous rape charge in Kentucky.

McManomy was charged in September 2010 for rape first degree, sodomy first degree, kidnapping, assault first degree and violation of foreign emergency protection order and domestic violence order.

Officials say when McManomy was told he was going to be arrested, he stabbed himself in the throat several times, then slashed Deputy Montgomery across the face.

McManony remains in critical condition at St. Mary's.
