EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - There's a push to bring a major natural food store to Evansville.
Now, it looks like a national chain is coming our way in a matter of months.
The Fresh Market has announced on their website that they're bringing a store to Evansville.
It will be located on Evansville's east side, near Burkhardt and the Lloyd.
The company plans on opening in the middle of next year.
Nutrition counselor Faith Dearmond-Griffith says Evansville needs more organic and health foods.
"I spend a lot of time making healthy meal plans with fresh foods, but clients can sometimes feel lost in the grocery store," Dearmond-Griffith told our reporter.
Even though she owns a smaller natural food store nearby, Charlie Elbert Moran said that Evansville has room for both.
Moran pointed out that many larger cities support chain stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's while keeping smaller markets in business as well.
In fact, a Facebook group recently cropped up, hoping to bring in a Whole Foods.
More than 2,000 people have joined.
14 News talked to the regional spokesperson for Whole Foods. She says, Indiana is a state where they're looking to grow, but she says a lot of factors go into the decision to open a new store. She did say one of them is social media.
Whether Whole Foods is built or not, it seems there's a growing appetite for health food stores and more companies are ready to cash in.
A spokesperson for the Fresh Market said more details on the store should be available in the next week or two.
As for Whole Foods, in addition to social media, you can submit store requests on their website. Just click this link.
